Kanuga Animal Clinic is a full service veterinary hospital, owned by Dr. B.J. Parsons, with over 25 years experience caring for your furry family members. Services include dental cleanings, laser surgeries, microchipping, X-rays, in-house diagnostic laboratory testing, boarding for small animals, puppy day care, drop-off services, and house calls. Breeder services available include: Reproductive assistance with progesterone testing, collection and insemination, and OFA certification procedures. Other services may be available upon request.

B.J. Parsons DVM:
Raised in Lyndonville, NY, BJ knew she wanted to be a vet from a very early age. She graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1975 from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA. Veterinary School soon followed at the University of Georgia in Athens. After graduating in 1981, she worked in Charlotte, NC for two years before moving to Hendersonville and acquiring Kanuga Animal Clinic in 1985. Raising and showing English Setters is her passion and she has been doing it since 1978. She also has performance paint horses. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Society for Theriogenology, the English Setter Association of America, the Hendersonville Kennel Club, the Central Carolina English Setter Club, the Atlanta English Setter Association, the American Paint Horse Association, the American Quarter Horse Association, and the National Cutting Horse Association. Dr. Parsons is also an AKC Conformation and Hunt Test Judge. She and her husband Burt have two children Kristen and Spencer. You will never see her without her very faithful companion, “IVAN”.

Charlene R. Kickbush, DVM, CVA, CVC:
obtained her veterinary degree at the University of Georgia and is licensed to practice in NC, GA and NY. Dr. Kickbush received certification as a licensed veterinary acupuncturist in 1992 and as a licensed animal chiropractor in 1998. Like all veterinary specialty boards, these individual specialties require 20 to 30 hours of continuing education as a requirement for annual licensing renewal. Dr. Kickbush has also completed the certificate program in Canine Rehabilitation at the University of Tennessee, thereby incorporating physical therapy as another very effective healing modality. In addition, Dr. Kickbush has training in Chinese and Western herbology and homeopathy. Professional memberships are maintained in the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture, American Veterinary Chiropractic Association, and the Veterinary Botanical Medical Association. Avocational interests include photography, gardening and preparation of botanical medicinals, reading natural history and all things Native American, and making handmade books, often incorporating original photographs as the cover art. |

Sue Hendren (a.k.a: “Old Broad Up Front”):
(a.k.a: “Old Broad Up Front”) Sue is the Receptionist for the best veterinarian in the world (in her own words ?). She gets constant receptionist help from her little gray and white kitty companion, “Ritz”. She is married and has 4 children and 8 grandchildren. She enjoys working with the clients and their pets. In her spare time she enjoys reading and putting together jigsaw puzzles of animals. She is owned by “Molly” the cat. |

Kristen Mooney(Practice Manager & Veterinary Assistant):
Kristen is the daughter of Dr. Parsons. She has her bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Western Carolina University. Kristen is currently taking online classes through AAHA’s Distance Education Veterinary Technology Program (DEVTP). In her spare time she shows dogs, breeds English Setters, and rides horses. She is accompanied to work every day by her spoiled English setter, “Cadillac”, and her faithful mutt-dog, “Izzie”. |

Mariel Gonzalez(Veterinary Assistant):
Mariel came to Kanuga Animal Clinic in August 2008 with no experience in veterinary medicine. She has obtained a lot of knowledge in a short amount of time. When she is not at work, she is taking care of her husband and her two dogs; “Luna” and “Mickey – G”. Mariel looks forward to pursuing a degree for Veterinary Medical Technology and becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician. Mariel is bilingual (fluent in Spanish): Amo mi trabajo. |

Kelsey Hillman(Veterinary Assistant):
Kelsey is the newest addition to our staff. Kelsey is currently attending AB Tech for a degree in Veterinary Medical Technology. In between going to school and working, she enjoys reading, hanging out with friend, and playing with her Beagle, “Daisy”. |
